Shared Use

  • Measurements funded by non-public research sources fall under the Shared Use Programme.
  • Requests for measurements supported by public research funds, such as Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI), should be made through the Internal Joint Use Scheme.
  • The PDF guidelines for the Shared Use Programme can be downloaded here.

1.共用事業の目的

The Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory supports a wide range of fields — from archaeology and, history to environmental science and, applied research — through the use of chemical treatment facilities and, a compact accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) system, which enable high-precision radiocarbon dating.

Through the shared-use programme, we make the laboratory’s available instrument capacity accessible to research institutions, government agencies, and, private companies, with the aim of contributing to new research and, development initiatives.

2.年代測定の主な仕様

  • Compact AMS system(NEC)

4ー1.申請要件

  • The research must be feasible within this laboratory.
  • A results report must have been submitted for any projects previously accepted.
  • The content must be related to academic research and, technological development.
  • It must be intended solely for peaceful purposes.

4ー2.申請方法

When applying, please be sure to consult the Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory in advance. Attach the “Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory Shared-use Programme Application Form” to an email, and, Submit the original signed pledge document.

The application will be reviewed by the Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory Management Committee.

5.データの帰属と成果公開

The shared-use programme consists of two categories: Open Results and, Exclusive Results.

Open Results: The rights to the data belong to the applicant, however, the publication of results is required. When publishing the results, please clearly state that they were obtained through the “Shared-use Programme of the Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory, The University Museum, The University of Tokyo.” As a rule, submitted result reports will be made publicly available.

Exclusive Results: The data belong to the applicant, and, the Radiocarbon Dating Laboratory will not request the publication of the results.

*Information requiring confidentiality will not be disclosed to third parties without prior consent. However, the following cases are exceptions:
